AN ACT TO PROVIDE THE CITY OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, AND ALCORN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, WITH THE POWERS TO EFFECTIVELY OPERATE THE CORINTH-ALCORN COUNTY CONVENTION AND AGRI-EXPOSITION CENTER JOINTLY AND/OR SEPARATELY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. For the purpose of this act, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed herein, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) "City" shall mean the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi.
(b) "County" shall mean the Board of Supervisors of Alcorn County, Mississippi.
(c) "Facility" shall mean a suitable building, multipurpose in use, including, but not limited to, recreational, commercial, industrial, entertainment or other civic related purposes, together with necessary adjacent buildings, grounds, parking areas, access ways, fences, appurtenances and improvements.
(d) "Convention Center" shall mean the Corinth-Alcorn County Convention and Agri-Exposition Center.
SECTION 2. The city and county, jointly and/or separately, are hereby authorized to plan, acquire, establish, develop, construct, enlarge, improve, promote, advertise, maintain, fund, equip, operate, manage, lease, regulate, protect and police the convention center, or other property, real or personal, to be jointly acquired, controlled and operated and to lease any property, real or personal, inside or outside the boundaries of the convention center site as they may deem necessary.
SECTION 3. The city and county are hereby authorized to employ personnel, obtain supplies, furnishings and other facilities as is necessary for the efficient operation of the convention center and the care of supporting property, and to employ such professional services as from time to time shall be deemed necessary in the conduct of the business of operating the convention center and the protection of the properties.
SECTION 4. The city and county are hereby authorized to receive and expend revenues from any source and to negotiate and enter into any contracts necessary for the efficient operation of the convention center.
SECTION 5. The city and county are hereby authorized to delegate all the powers given to them by this act to a board, commission, joint board or joint commission, established by them to operate and manage the convention center.
SECTION 6. This act shall be deemed to be full and complete authority for the exercise of the powers herein granted.
SECTION 7. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
